The Tank Museum – recently named England’s top visitor attraction – has chosen iplicit’s award-winning accounting software to run its finances.
The popular destination in Bovington, Dorset, is home to 300 military machines.
A registered charity, it tells the story of the tank from the mud of the Somme to the beaches of Normandy and the deserts of Iraq.
It is home to the oldest surviving tank in the world – Little Willie, from 1915 – and vehicles from its collections have appeared in films including War Horse, Fury and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Earlier this year, mystery visitors for the consumer insights consultancy BVA BDRC graded the Tank Museum as the best attraction in England. It scored 97.9%, with the attraction described as “excellent” and the staff “amazing”.
The Tank Museum was impressed by iplicit’s many features tailored for nonprofits, including flexible financial reporting for different stakeholders, the ability to track grants and funds and the automated application of partial VAT.
Matt Lewns, Partner Manager at iplicit, said: “We’re thrilled to have added such a prestigious attraction and such a famous name to iplicit’s constantly growing list of nonprofit customers.
“A number of the iplicit team are Dorset-based and have grown up knowing the Tank Museum as a favourite destination, so this customer is one that’s particularly close to their hearts.”
Paul Dolan, Head of Finance at the Tank Museum, who has overseen its expansion over the past 19 years, said: “We have been a Sage 50 user for over 20 years but wanted to modernise our accounting systems and reporting.
“We carried out an extensive appraisal of accounting systems and found iplicit to be the best in terms of functionality and cost. The fact that a number of the team are based nearby in Poole is a real bonus.”
Earlier this year, the Tank Museum launched a £50,000 fundraising campaign to revive an example of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s favourite tank, the M47. The film star turned politician served in an M47 in his native Austria and later bought the tank he had crewed.
